What if families do not have wireless Internet access at home?
There are a limited number of free mobile wireless hotspots available for checkout in the library. Students are able to check out the devices and use them at home without charge. Students will not have access to streaming media such as YouTube with these mobile wireless hotspots. The duration of checkout is the same as a library book.
Subscription-based Internet service is available from providers in the area. If a family does not have internet access in their home for financial reasons, check out the Internet Discount Finder site to see if discounted internet is available in your community. Some plans start as low as $5.00 per month. If a family chooses to not have wireless internet in the home, there are also a variety of options for access to free wifi. The following offers a few possible options families may wish to use in determining possible locations to access free wifi. Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to investigate any free wifi location to ensure their children will be welcome and safe at the location. Nicolet High School has no control over locations identified below.
- All Milwaukee Public Libraries have free wifi- Click here for hours and locations
- Hotspot Finder for Milwaukee. You may enter your street address to find locations closest to you. Note: Wifi at some locations listed may not be free or may require a minimum purchase from their business. Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to investigate any free wifi location to ensure their children will be welcome and safe at the location.
- Another suggestion is to look for one of these icons as you enter public places as these will free indicate wifi access.
